Strictly over-18s. Bare legs grip best, so shorts are your friend.
Try pole without the contract
Dudley already has dedicated pole studios, and if you want a full timetable with open practice and a membership, they’re well worth a look. This class answers a different question: what if you just want to find out whether pole is for you, without signing up for a month at a time? The list lets us gather people in that position and open a beginner-friendly class once there are enough of you.
Safety comes before anything else. We only teach in a properly rigged room we hire, with poles fitted and checked for the session, and numbers are capped at what the poles can take so you’re never stood queueing for ages. The class is strictly over-18s, and the teacher builds strength gradually rather than rushing anyone into moves their shoulders aren’t ready for.
Nothing is paid upfront. Your name costs nothing, and once the class runs it’s £9 whenever you come — no packages, no expiry dates and no awkward conversations about cancelling a contract. If life gets hectic for a month, just come back when it calms down.
Where beginners begin on the pole
Shaped by the room, week by week
Walks and pivots
Moving around the pole with control and poise — the base of everything that follows, and harder to make look smooth than you’d think.
Grip and body weight
Learning where hands and inner thighs hold on, and how to trust the pole with a little more of your weight each time.
First spins
A fireman spin or chair spin, taught with plenty of spotting and repeated until the momentum starts working for you.
Floorwork and flow
Slower moves on the mat that link everything together and build strength without asking you to leave the ground.
Progress on the pole is personal. Some people hold their first pole sit within a few weeks; others take longer, and that’s completely normal. The teacher adapts each session to whoever turns up, offering an easier and a harder version of most moves, so nobody gets pushed past what feels safe on the night.
Bruises on the backs of knees and thighs are a rite of passage for beginners and fade as your grip improves. Expect to discover muscles you’d forgotten about the morning after — it’s a full-body workout disguised as a dance class.

Why people put their names down
I’d looked at studios but couldn’t justify a monthly fee when I didn’t know whether I’d enjoy it. This way I could just try it, and now I’m hooked.
The teacher spotted me on every spin until I trusted myself. I left the first class shaking and grinning in equal measure.
Can someone with weak arms and no gym habit still learn pole?
Yes. The strength comes from doing it, not before it. Beginner moves use your legs and body weight as much as your arms, and the teacher builds the load up gradually.
Why is the Dudley pole class limited to over-18s?
The weekly pole sessions are designed for adults, both in content and in the physical load involved. That’s why the form asks for your age range.
Where exactly will the pole sessions be held?
In a properly rigged room we hire once the list fills, chosen to suit the postcodes people give us. Everyone on the list hears the details before the first session.
Which clothes actually help you grip on a first pole night?
Shorts and a fitted top, because skin sticks to the pole and fabric slides. Skip body lotion on the day, as it makes gripping far harder.
Will pole dancing feel too revealing for me?
You decide how much skin to show. Beginners mostly wear gym shorts; you’ll simply find certain moves easier with bare legs as your grip develops.
How does this differ from joining a pole fitness studio?
Studios usually run monthly memberships with a full timetable. Ours is a single beginner class that opens off a list, paid at £9 per session with no ongoing commitment.
Are heels part of the beginner pole sessions?
No — beginners start barefoot for grip and balance. If the class progresses and the room wants to try heels later, you’d bring your own.
I have an old shoulder injury — should I still sign up?
Put your name down and mention it to the teacher on your first night. Moves can be adapted, but check with a medical professional first if you’re unsure.
