Belly Dance Classes in Dudley
Hip drops, snake arms and a shimmy that eventually stops feeling like a shiver. Add your name to our list for nothing, and when enough people are keen we hire a room and open a new beginners’ class. Each session after that is £9, paid when you arrive.

Every shape, every age, every level of wobble — genuinely.
A fresh beginners’ belly dance group
There are already belly dance teachers in the area, and if one of their classes suits you then brilliant. This list exists for people who haven’t found a night, a location or a level that fits yet, and who would like to start alongside other complete beginners in a brand-new group.
Here’s how it works. You leave your name and a postcode, and we watch where the interest builds up. When enough people have signed, we hire a room that suits the spread of the list — someone in Netherton and someone in Oldbury should both be able to get there without a trek — and invite everybody to the opening class.
After that it’s £9 for each class you attend. There’s no term to pay up front and nothing to cancel if life gets busy. Belly dance is wonderful for posture, core strength and confidence, and none of those benefits need a contract attached.
What the early belly dance classes teach
Shaped by the room, week by week
Isolation
Moving the hips while the ribcage stays still, and the ribcage while the hips stay still — the root of everything that follows.
Hip drops and lifts
Sharp accents that land on the drum, practised slowly until they sit neatly in the music.
Figure eights
Smooth, looping hip paths in several directions, which feel odd at first and hypnotic later.
A first shimmy
Knee-driven vibration built up gradually, with plenty of rests, so it grows without tiring you out.
The teacher layers moves together gently, often into a short sequence you can practise at home. Some weeks lean towards drum-driven accents, others towards slow, flowing movement. It always depends on the room, and nobody is expected to master a move in one evening.
It’s a supportive class by nature. You don’t need to show your stomach, wear anything special or have any rhythm to begin with. Because the group formed from the list, everyone is new together and the atmosphere tends to be warm, curious and full of laughter.

Two reasons to join
I’d tried to find a beginners’ class that fitted around my shifts for ages. Getting on a list that forms a new group felt more sensible than joining halfway through someone else’s course.
I was worried I’d be the only one who had never tried it. Turns out everybody was new. My figure eights are rubbish but my back hasn’t felt this good in years.
Will the teacher expect a bare midriff in belly dance?
Not at all. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in — a T-shirt is completely fine. The teacher watches your hips and posture, not your midriff, and nobody is asked to dress any particular way.
Is belly dance a good workout for a bad back?
Many people find the gentle core work and posture practice helpful, but if you have a back condition it’s wise to check with your GP first and tell the teacher, who will adapt moves for you.
Which style of belly dance does this group focus on?
The early weeks cover foundation technique that underpins most styles, such as isolations, hip accents and flowing shapes. The teacher may introduce flavours from different traditions once the group is settled.
Will I be taught how to play zills or finger cymbals?
Possibly later on, if the group is keen. They’re not part of the opening weeks, and we don’t supply them, so there’s nothing to buy before you’ve even learned a shimmy.
Why join this list when other belly dance classes exist nearby?
It’s simply another option. If an existing class suits you, go for it. This list forms a brand-new beginners’ group, so it helps people who prefer starting fresh with others at exactly the same level.
How soon will the new belly dance group begin?
That depends on how quickly names come in. When there are enough people for a sociable group, we book a space near where they live and message everyone with the first date.
Do I dance barefoot or in shoes for belly dance?
Bare feet or socks are traditional and work well on a clean floor. Soft dance shoes are fine too. We don’t provide footwear, so bring your own if you prefer something on your feet.
Is the belly dance class open to men as well?
Yes, adults of any gender are welcome. The movement suits every body, and the class is about technique and enjoyment rather than looking a certain way.
