No dance experience needed, and nothing comes off. The routine is built around your group on the day, pitched at your comfort level.

Why burlesque works

Glamour you can laugh at

Think of burlesque as a stage act that happens to involve dancing. It’s about the slow walk across the room, the glance over the shoulder, the eyebrow raised at exactly the right moment. A burlesque hen party dance class borrows all of that old-school showmanship and none of the awkwardness: everyone stays fully dressed, the tone is cheeky rather than rude, and the laughter tends to arrive long before the confidence does.

The teacher works with the group in front of them, adding shoulder shimmies, hip sways, playful poses and a mock glove peel or two, then shaping them into a short piece that suits your particular crowd. If you’ve never danced before, that’s fine — burlesque rewards personality far more than technique, and the shyest person in the room often turns out to have the best side-eye. Every move has a tamer version for anyone who’d rather keep it subtle.

It fits neatly among hen party ideas for groups who want something a little glamorous without being raucous, and it suits a wide spread of ages. Of the hen party activities on offer in and around Dudley, it’s one of the best for building the bride up: she’ll leave feeling like a proper star of the stage.

Sessions take place in a room we hire near Dudley town centre, or the teacher can come to a private venue you’ve lined up. Teaching fee and room hire appear as one figure on a written quote.

Why ninety suits burlesque: the magic is in the timing — the pause before a shimmy, the slow turn of the head — and the longer class lets the group practise those beats until they land with a wink rather than a wobble.

Venue extra; wink, shimmy and glove-peel practice for the whole troupe come as standard.

Your Dudley day

Burlesque glamour in the Black Country

A late-afternoon start lets the group get ready properly beforehand, then roll straight into dinner and drinks — nearby, or on the train into Birmingham. Corsets, gloves, feathers and red lipstick look wonderful on camera if people own them, but they’re entirely optional and come from your own wardrobes; heels are optional too, and comfy shoes are safer.

When half the troupe lives out towards Stourbridge, Lye or Wall Heath, mention it and the curtain-up time can be chosen with the drive in mind. Eight performers or thirty both suit this dance hen party, and the hen do dance class fee holds steady whatever size the troupe ends up.

I was worried it would be cringey but it was classy and so funny. My future mother-in-law had the best glove peel in the room.

Burlesque questions, answered

Call 07851 966372
Does anyone have to take clothes off in burlesque?

Nobody undresses. Every layer you arrive in stays on until you leave. The glove peels and teasing moves are mimed or done with items you choose to bring yourself, and the tone stays playful rather than risqué.

Is burlesque suitable with mums and grans in the group?

Very much so. The teacher pitches it around who’s in the room, and it can be as cheeky or as classy as you like. Tell us on the form if you’d prefer to keep things family-friendly.

Do we need our own chairs or feather boas for burlesque?

No. Nothing is required, and we don’t supply props or costumes. If the group wants to bring gloves or boas from home, the teacher can happily work them in, but the class works perfectly well without.

How is a Dudley burlesque hen session priced for the group?

For the whole group, it’s £190 plus venue for the ninety-minute class we suggest, or £165 plus venue for an hour. The room cost is included on the same written quote, and there’s no per-person pricing.

Which room will our burlesque hen class use?

In a room we hire near Dudley town centre, with space for everyone to strut. The teacher can also come to a venue you’ve booked, provided there’s a clear floor.

Can shy guests take part without feeling exposed?

Yes. Every move has a toned-down version, nobody is pushed to the front, and the teacher keeps the mood light. Shy guests often surprise themselves once the laughing starts.
